Spring has sprung! … At least for many of us… Just this week we had a hail storm and such icy winds that turned our family leisurely walk into a mad dash for cover. Ok Mother Nature, the weather has been a little nutty already! On the other hand, we’re suddenly having warmer days, stunning tiny little blossoms budding all over our trees, gorgeous daffodils & tulips sprouting, and a hundred tiny birds singing to us first thing in the morning. And honestly, after the cold and “sick season” we just had as a family, the beautiful and warm weather is a precious and welcomed breath of fresh air! We actually spotted a little cottontail bunny on our morning walk. “Is that the Easter Bunny scout!?” I asked my little. . . Her eyes glistened in excitement as she nearly jumped out of her stroller . . . .” It is!!! It is!!”
I can’t get over the magic seen in a child’s eyes! Everything is new and full of wonder. I wish I could find that feeling more, that true ‘awe’ in life. Seeing it through my baby’s eyes is magic in itself and I love it, am so grateful for it each day and would love to hold a little tighter to it.
My little has been counting down the days till the Easter Bunny comes for a visit! Before our ‘littles’ joined our family, as adults, I think the holiday didn’t really hold any magic for me or my husband. It was just a nice excuse to gather with family and enjoy each other along with good food. Our traditions consisted of my Special Devilled Eggs and watching the movie Hop. Now? It’s an entirely different world!
So much of my childhood memories of fun running around with my younger brother rush back! Now, we bake cookies the day before. We put a special plate out of yummy, fresh carrots for the Easter Bunny. The morning of we run out to see what the Easter Bunny dropped off for our little girl and (now, this year) our little boy too! We have a home cooked meal as a family and just like at Thanksgiving, share what we’re grateful for. AND of course we do a (plastic) Easter Egg hunt. At least last year the eggs were hidden again and again for another couple of weeks before the novelty wore off!
This year with our little girl, Skye, being the “Big Sister”, she’s been so excited to show her little brother, Connor, the ‘ropes’. Yes, I still plan on making my Devilled Eggs (rest assured mom – wink, wink!) and be sure to turn on the movie, Hop. . . but honestly, my heart is swelling from anticipation and excitement to see the magic through our children’s eyes.
Whatever you may have planned, take a moment to take it all in. . . the beauty of the season, the new life budding and hatching and more importantly, the time spent with loved ones. Be grateful for the life we’ve been blessed with.
What traditions do you have this season? I would love to hear from you! And whatever the plans, I hope it’s beautiful! XO
