In the age of the coronavirus, many of us are working from home and spending the majority of our days wearing loungewear — which can leave us feeling less than glamorous if we’re not wearing clothing that flatters our body types and boosts our self-confidence. If we do step outside our homes for a walk or small gathering with friends, we’re usually hiding our faces behind a protective mask — and we may decide to ditch our regular makeup routine altogether.
While there’s nothing wrong with wearing loungewear and going makeup-free, the important thing is that we’re feeling great in our skin after so many months of self-isolation. With the following tips from Classy Mama Bear, we’ll all be looking and feeling our best in no time at all!
Boost Your Body Image
Poor body image affects our mental health and well-being in many ways — and it can even lead to a diminished quality of life, disordered eating, and suicidal thoughts and feelings in some cases. And thanks to the coronavirus-induced lockdowns that had us spending much of our time at home, Erin Magner of Well + Good says that more people are experiencing the effects of negative body image — largely because many of us are feeling powerless amid the pandemic.
Happily, there are several things we can do to boost our body image as we prepare to venture back out into the world, such as:
- Buying comfortable, yet stylish clothing. Comfortable clothing is essential in a time like COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice style. For instance, you can shop online for stylish, yet comfortable tanks, bras, underwear, and leggings you need to look and feel your very best during the pandemic. Constructed from a durable fabric, Davy Piper’s Glenna High-Rise Legging is ultra comfortable without sacrificing style.
- Adapting your makeup routine. If you enjoy wearing makeup, don’t let the pandemic stop you from looking and feeling your absolute best. REFINERY29 shares some helpful tips for adapting your makeup routine if and when you’ll be wearing a protective face mask.
Eat Your Way to Better Health and Well-Being
To boost your body image and improve your physical, mental, and emotional health overall, it’s also important to incorporate a variety of nutritious foods into your diet. Not only will eating healthy foods help to boost your immunity and protect you from colds and influenza viruses, but a well-rounded diet will boost your mental well-being and reduce symptoms of depression. Plus, several mood-boosting foods include avocados, fatty fish, walnuts, and dark berries — so work these items into your diet and eat your way to better physical, mental, and emotional health.
Exercise from Home
To look and feel your absolute best, it’s wise to incorporate a home-based exercise program into your daily routine. Regular exercise is great for your physical health — and also your mood and psychological well-being. Plus, exercising at home is easier than sounds, even if you’re tight on space; all you need is access to the internet, a comfortable space to workout in, and a few basic pieces of equipment.
The Bottom Line
As you can see, there are so many things you can do to improve the way you look and feel as pandemic restrictions lift and more and more people begin to venture out into the world. If you’ve followed these tips and find that your mental health is still struggling, however, don’t be afraid to seek the help of a mental health professional. Virtual appointments are available, so go ahead and schedule yours if you’re experiencing issues with body image, stress, anxiety, or any other mental health concern.
